A message from the Ridge
Riders Snowmobile Club Inc.

In support of
our men and women
currently serving in the armed forces
protecting our freedoms, the Ridge Riders
Snowmobile Club will be collecting
items to send to our troops currently
serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Attached is a
list of suggested items. Items
can be dropped off at our April 2nd meeting at 7:30 pm,
in the
Whitney Point Intermediate School, or at the Beauty and Body Connection
located
on Main Street Whitney Point.
If people would rather mail a donation so the
club may
purchase items, please send your
donations to “Ridge Riders Snowmobile
Club”
at the address stated below and
state, “troop support” on your donation.
We plan to
include several photos
of our snow covered trails, our snow groomers,
and a few snowmobiles as well.
Also, we intend to send along disposable cameras to
our troops with
preaddressed return envelops to allow them to take photos of themselves
and
return the camera to us so we may show their duty stations at our club
meetings
and community events.
Please help the
Ridge Riders send a
little of our homes over to those serving our country,
and who are so very far
away from their own home. Remember that we have both men and
women serving our
country. We often forget that we have Moms, wives, daughters, and
sisters that
we are also proud of. Please review the list of items, you may include
other
items if you so desire.
Special packages will be assembled for our female
soldiers.
This will allow us to perhaps give them a few items that other wise
are often over looked.
Any and all
non-perishable items
will be accepted. We would like to encourage you and
your family to send a
short note to our troops, thanking them for their service and
dedication.
Please
remember, our troops are doing a job as directed by our President.
No matter
how you feel about the situation we are in, please think of our
soldiers and
how we
can help them. We all want our men and women home as soon as possible.
In the mean time,
lets show them we are thinking about them and that they are
in our hearts and prayers.
Questions or concerns please call Mike Reynolds At 607-692-3140
Thank you in
advance for your help
and support.

When 2nd Lt. James Cathey's body arrived at
the Reno Airport, Marines climbed into the cargo hold of the plane and
draped the flag over his casket as passengers watched the family gather
on the tarmac. During the arrival of another
Marine's casket last year at Denver International Airport, Major
Steve Beck described the scene as one of the most
powerful in the process: "See the people in the windows? They'll sit
right there in the plane, watching those Marines.
You gotta wonder what's going through their minds, knowing that they're
on the plane that brought him home," he said.
"They're going to remember being on that plane for the rest of their
lives. They're going to remember bringing that Marine home.
And they should."

The night before the burial of her husband's
body, Katherine Cathey refused to leave the casket,
asking to sleep next to his body for the last time. The Marines made a
bed for her, tucking in the sheets below the flag.
Before she fell asleep, she opened her laptop computer and played songs
that reminded her of 'Cat,' and one of the Marines
asked if she wanted them to continue standing watch as she slept. "I
think it would be kind of nice if you kept doing it,"
she said. "I think that's what he would have wanted."
